Susan C. Taylor, MD, a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology, is a leading dermatologist with extensive experience as a clinician, clinical researcher, pharmaceutical industry consultant and CEO of a small, privately held cosmetic company. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School, Taylor completed residencies in Internal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital and dermatology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Dr. Taylor has twenty-two years of clinical dermatology experience at Society Hill Dermatology in Philadelphia, PA, diagnosing and treating a wide range of dermatologic disorders and skin cancers. Additionally, she established and is the Founding Director of the Skin of Color Center at St. Luke's Hospital Center in New York, a first of its kind in the nation. The mission of the center is the diagnosis, treatment, and investigation of diseases in individuals with skin of color, including those of African, Hispanic, and Asian ancestry. Her teaching responsibilities have included lecturing medical students and dermatology residents as well as to dermatologists globally.
Dr. Taylor has served as an investigator, consultant and advisory board member for both pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies for over 10-years. As an industry consultant, she has advised industry regarding protocol design, execution and interpretation, product development and regulatory, marketing and sales strategy. She is the Director of the Clinical Trials section at Society Hill Dermatology and has extensive experience as a Principal Investigator, performing over 25 Phase II through Phase IV clinical trials. Taylor is considered a key opinion leader having testified before the FDA and participated in and lectured at numerous advisory boards and on expert roundtables.
A leader within the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Dr. Taylor recently concluded a term as a member of the Board of Directors, and is currently Chair of the Skinnovation Committee, member of the Regulatory Policy Committee, the Council of Communications, and the Ad Hoc Task Force on Board Structure. She is former chair of the Women's Health Taskforce. Taylor was the appointed AADA representative to the Doctors for Medical Liability Reform (DMLR) Steering Committee, the AAD representative to the Public Service Campaign Addressing Psoriasis, and invited presenter at the AAD/ASFPS Facial Soft Tissue Fillers: Assessing the State of the Science Conference. She has served as a member of the faculty of the Annual and Summer Meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology yearly for the past 10 years and has been plenary speaker.
She has co-authored two major dermatology textbooks, Dermatology for Skin of Color (McGraw Hill) (which was awarded the coveted PROSE Award for Clinical Medicine and for Excellence in Biology & Life Sciences) and Treatment for Skin of Color (Elsevier, in press); two books for the lay-public, Brown Skin: Dr. Susan Taylor's Prescription for Flawless Skin, Hair and Nails and Reader's Digest Complete Skin Care; number textbook chapters, journal articles and the website, www.brownskin.net.
Dr. Taylor is the creator of and former CEO of T2 Skincare's Dr. Susan Taylor's Rx for Brown Skin. As CEO, she directed branding, sales, and marketing strategies. The line was sold nationally in Sephora, Macys, Dillards, JC Penneys; internationally in the Middle East; as well as on Home Shopping Network (HSN) and numerous ecommerce sites. Under Taylor's leadership, the brand strategy has evolved to direct-to-consumer web based and television sales through a merger with the Syndero Company. Additionally, Taylor was Founder and the first President of the Skin of Color Society, which promotes awareness of and excellence within the area of special interest of dermatology - skin of color.
With extensive media experience, Dr. Taylor has served as a medical expert on both national as well as local television and radio programs including the Today Show, Weekend Today, Good Morning America, MSNBC and the Dr. Oz Show. Taylor has a weekly health segment on the local Fox affiliate, Good Day Philadelphia, and a monthly health segment on the 10 Show on the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia. She has served as a media spokesperson and has participated in satellite media tours.
Additional board service includes the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania where she is the Chair of the Neighborhood Initiatives Committee and a member of the Proxy, External Affairs, Diversity, and Nominating Committees. Taylor also sits on the Board of Overseers of Penn's Graduate School of Education and on the Board of Trustees of the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Taylor's academic appointments include Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Associate Faculty of the School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, Pennsylvania Medical Society, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and former member if the Philadelphia Dermatology Society.
